Introducing the Affinity Insurance Apprencticeship Program

Picture
I am writing today to share information our break through apprentice program that will offer new opportunities and create new career paths in insurance for thousands of undecided (new high school graduates), unemployed and underemployed individuals within our community.

The insurance is a $6.2 trillion dollar industry with positions to fit nearly every skill set. Yet, as of August 2017, there were an estimated 2,000 open positions listed on the Indeed job site, including hundreds posted by local insurance companies. Consequently, the insurance industry has intensified recruitment efforts. That’s where we can help.

The Affinity Insurance Apprenticeship Program is an eight-week program designed to significantly increase the number of licensed producers entering the insurance industry with specialties in life, health, property and casualty and financial services.  There is a special emphasis to recruit minorities who are significantly underrepresented. A recent addition to the course offerings is the Insurance Adjusters Program.

The Affinity Insurance Apprenticeship Program, is a strategic combination of a wealth of talent and expertise from founding partners including St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE), The Conley Financial Group (TCFG), Affinity Planning and Insurance Group (a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to financial education and planning). Affinity Planning and Insurance Group works in conjunction with representatives of the U.S. Department of Labor, the national insurance market and the national insurance market.

The Affinity Planning and Insurance Group partners with insurance subject matter experts who will take responsibility for a section of the curricula and will develop a straight forward, four-tiered apprenticeship program. This will allow students to learn about different types of insurance from practitioners and leave licensed and ready to seek gainful employment.

Apprenticeships, an invaluable tool for both employers and potential employees, were historically used within the construction trades along with other jobs in the blue-collar industry. Positions within white-collar industries often began as internships for college students transitioning into permanent positions.

Unlike other apprenticeships, our program introduces a whole new career path for candidates previously unexposed to opportunities in insurance.  It requires no experience and no preparation other than the candidate commitment to the program by attending classes.  We are literally creating jobs for a previously untapped workforce.

As noted in our SWOT analysis, our strengths and opportunities far outweigh the inherent weaknesses and threats of a typical start-up program. We have added an assessment, tracking, and reporting component that will provide a 360-degree analysis of data to help evaluate the program and determine the potential for expansion down the road:
